1 Introduction to Intercession

Intercession is misunderstood and with many opinions on intercession. Intercession is clearly Biblical Based and God inspired.

A lot of intercession starts because we are convicted that we are called to prayer but pray to little and not very effectively. The Bible is the basis for our intercession and the Intercessor cannot be separated from the Word. See WORD Studies page

2 Intercession is God initiated

We cannot be motivated out of human compassion for then we will run out of steam and run into trouble very quickly. Taking hands with God and trusting the Holy Spirit to guide our prayers is the only way

Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Rom 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose

When God hears us

We pray God-prayers according to His purposes and when we know that it is His will we know He hears us and we have what we ask for. We know that all things will work out for good because we firstly love God and are called for His purposes.

1Jn 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

We need the Mind of Christ

Intercession isn't throwing tandrims and trying to convince God to do something - we need to know already that it is His will to do something. We are like advocates that know the law very well but know there is always place for mercy and grace. We need our minds renewed when we become intercessors for nothing will come of prayers filled with human and worldly philosophies and reasonings. There are no answers to such prayers - but when we know what God want for a situation there are no limit to what we can ask and nothing can stop our outcome.

Rom 12:1 beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

In dependence on God

Intercession demands of us dedication and holiness, allowing God to change us and to get the World-thing out of us. Placing in us a renewed mind and dependency on Him. No longer depending on our own abilities we need to lean on Him, to live by faith and to obey the Holy Spirit. Authority in Intercession does not come by great ideas about ourselves but by moving under His authority.We need to learn what Wisdom and discernment is to know that to pray

3 Be Encouraged to live a life of Intercession

This life of dedication and preparation of the intercessor is no greater than what is expected of each believer, it is just more crucial with without it we will not see God's hand move. But there are great rewards in doing the will of God and you get to know God's ways more deeply.

Psa 25:12 What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.
Psa 14 The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

You get to know God's secret counsels and become part of His A-team. Every assignment and adventure and a way to learn more from Him. Compared to a computer game there are new levels, new challenges and new skills but the difference is you are not in control - it is not your levels, not your challenges and not your skills but His. You only get to be the one that goes on the mission.

Intercession is a way of life

Intercession is a lifestyle and sometimes a very lonely path. So if you are timid and if you are new in intercession know that you will not stay that way. Be not discouraged by what people around you say or when there is no support or agreement. You are not under human leadership - take your comfort from the Lord - worship often and go to Him for the encouragement that you need. Remember He is always committed to you and yours before your mission and your work, He loves you and are you Provider and Comforter.
